New for 2020-21, we have changed our programs to align to the Speed Skating Canada Long Term Participant Athlete Development(LTPAD) program.
Active Start (1 Hour Per Week, Monday 6:00pm - 7:00pm Starting Jan 4, 2021)
- Skaters age starting at 6 y/o
- Skaters must have basic skating skills before they begin
- Skaters must be able to get back up on their skates without any assistance
- Focus is to learn the basics of speed skating
Fundamentals (2 Hours Per Week, Monday 7:00pm - 9:00pm, Starting Sept 28, 2020)
- Skaters have successfully met the “Active Start” skills and are working on improving in both technique and speed
Train to Train (2 Hours Per Week, Wednesday 6:30pm - 8:30pm, Starting Sept 23, 2020)
- Skaters have mastered the basics of speed skating and are improving both technique and speed
Train to Compete (2 Hours Per Week, Wednesday 6:30pm - 8:30pm, Starting Sept 23, 2020)
- Accomplished skaters as well as skaters who are competing at the provincial and national levels
Active for Life (1.5 hours Per Week, Friday 6:30am - 8:00am, Starting Oct 2, 2020)
- Skaters ranging in age from 20- 70+
- Includes skaters new to the sport of speed skating as well as skaters with years of experience
Equipment
Speed Skates can be rented from the club.
Skaters will also require the following safety equipment to participate in programs:
- Neck guard with bib
- Cut-proof gloves
- Cut-proof ankle cuffs or socks
- Safety glasses (clear lenses)
- Shin guards
- Knee pads
- Skating helmet (no bicycle helmets please)
